چکیده

We analyze in details a simplified configuration of a compensation method based on a negative nonlinearity. It is shown that one can cascade the compensation of dispersive and self-phase modulation effects accumulated along a communication line without serious degradation in the quality of the transmitted signal. Anomalous and normal dispersion regimes are compared. Amplifier noise and higher-order dispersion are taken into account in numerical simulations using either RZ or NRZ modulation formats. The split-compensator approach appears better suited to a first experimental proof demonstration. C. Paré et al., “Split compensation of dispersion... ”, Opt. Commun., vol. 160, pp. 130-138 (1999).

Modulational Instability in a Communication Link Exploiting a Negative Nonlinearity for Compensation of Self-phase Modulation

In optical communication systems, the technique of alternating dispersion is commonly used as a way to counteract the dispersive pulse broadening. The main limitations, in terms of bit-rate, then come from the fiber Kerr nonlinearity acting through self-phase modulation and four-wave mixing [1]. The recently introduced method of " dispersion management ", where the dispersion compensation is on...

Effect of Nonlinear Phase Variation in Optical Millimetre Wave Radio over Fibre Systems

In this paper, we propose an optical millimetre wave radio-over-fibre (mm-wave RoF) system that uses a dual drive Mach Zehnder modulator (DD-MZM), which is biased at the maximum transmission biasing point, to generate an optical double sideband-suppressed carrier. The input to the DD-MZM are binary phase shift keying (BPSK), quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK), 8-phase shift keying (8-PSK) and...

Performance Analysis of Dwdm Based Fiber Optic Communication with Different Modulation Schemes and Dispersion Compensation Fiber

Dense Wavelength Division multiplexing (DWDM) is a novel technology that can improve the channel capacity and meet growing demands for bandwidth of the optical fiber communication system. This technology utilizes a composite optical signal carrying multiple information streams. Each information streams transmitted on a distinct optical wavelength onto a single fiber. The performance of DWDM is ...

Comprehensive study of CD compensation and carrier phase estimation in optical communication systems influenced by equalization enhanced phase noise

The performance of long-haul coherent optical fiber transmission system is significantly affected by the equalization enhanced phase noise (EEPN), due to the interaction between the electronic dispersion compensation (EDC) and the laser phase noise. In this paper, we present a comprehensive study on different chromatic dispersion (CD) compensation and carrier phase recovery (CPR) approaches, in...
